HELLO & welcome to my sanctuary in Austin.
When we moved to Austin our main priority was turning the home into a sanctuary. Somewhere we could come to relax, zen out & have ALL the calm vibes.
It’s a place where I want to have a peaceful sleep & be still. ( Side note: to be real with you, our furniture has still not arrived & we’ve been in the house for 4 months. ) With everything going on right now, furniture is taking months and months- which is fine- we will live. So, our house is very minimal right now- like blow-up couches are happening.
Although, one thing is on point. That is…our bedroom vibes.
The second we moved we made sure the bedroom had all the things we needed for PEACE OF MIND.
Like, we ordered the most comfortable, buttery sheets , got the red light bulbs going, a Sonos system for zen music, salt rock lamp, white noise machine, sound bowls & more.
Little accessories in the bedroom are crucial: my favorite rose gold CBD pen, a big beautiful mug for tea & all my favorite books. YES PLZ.
Anyway, let’s break it down so maybe you can pick up a few tips for creating the MOST sanctuary-esque bedroom ever.
HOW TO TURN YOUR BEDROOM INTO A SANCTUARY:
♡ plush, delicious bedding
Michael wants to kill me because just for a little bit, I wanted pink bedding…I know- how annoying. It’s probably not a forever thing, I’ll probably switch back to Brooklinen’s white linen bedding that I use all the time, but for now, just for a few months, I wanted PINK.
So we’ve been using Brooklinen bedding for as long as I can remember. It’s kind of a staple. The sheets are buttery & delicious & will give you the BEST sleep of your life.
Also. And let’s be real this is important, they’re CHIC. French chic. The kind of chic you want for your bedding. AIRY- very Shutters Santa Monica if you will.
I opted for the crispy pink sheets & pillowcases ( & I say “I” because I picked, sorry Michael ). We have a king size bed & these sheets fit nice & tight and make the bed look like perfection when it’s all made in
the morning. Hotel bed energy. At night when it’s time to wind down they’re soooo comfortable. You will melt into your bed like a cloud, I’m telling you.
You should know we went for the linen Hardcore bundle in ‘petal’ color. They are effortless, but elegant. They’re ideal for a warm day but are also perfect on a cool night. They don’t get messed up in the wash either ( highly recommend washing the sheets on cold & line drying if you can to preserve the fibers & elasticity. If you can’t, go for a tumble dry on low heat ).

♡ red light bulbs & red light therapy
Red light therapy is a HUGE PART of my life. I wake up & do it for 10 minutes . So let’s get into the benefits of red light therapy & how to do it.

Michael, my husband, has a big Joovv red light panel in his office. It’s big, it works, it gets the job done. As I said, I’ll stand in front of this for 10 minutes a day, and then at night we use red light bulbs.
Yup, red light bulbs, that you can buy on Amazon, to help us wind down at night. They really create this peaceful vibe in the bedroom & lower your cortisol ( the stress hormone ) before you go to sleep. It really has been life changing.
So why red light therapy?
Our cells need natural light to function, just like they need water & nutrients from food. Unfortunately, most people don’t get as much natural light as they need for optimal health ( the average American spends over 90% of their time indoors ). Red light therapy allows you to supplement the light you get from your environment with concentrated wavelengths of red & near infrared light at home.
Red light therapy works by enhancing your energy production at a cellular level. Healthy, natural light stimulates the mitochondria, the powerhouse of the cell, & enhances the cellular respiration process that makes ATP ( adenosine triphosphate ) energy. The big Joovv panels are an investment ( but Michael & I both think it’s so worth it ). Aside from all the benefits of red light therapy, it just sets a relaxing, peaceful situation.
ALSO: can we discuss red light bulbs? We replace all our lights in our room with red light bulbs. Basically if the lights are on in our room, it’s red. ♡ Sonos system
We invested in a Sonos which is amazing. We like to wind down with some sleepy music & when we wake up we turn on some Japanese zen garden music. For our house in Austin, I decided to not have a TV in the bedroom for Feng Shui purposes.
Having a Sonos makes controlling the music easy & just sets the tone & vibe in our bedroom perfectly. Magical for anyone who loves 5 sense.
♡ salt rock lamp
LIFE-CHANGING. Get one, or get a night light. The orange light signals to your brain to go to sleep. You should know I absolutely use this EVERY.SINGLE.NIGHT.
A while ago I went to the most magnificent spa at the hotel we stayed at in Gstaad. The spa had all these different saunas & steam rooms…I mean ALL THE SAUNAS…wet, dry, wood, herbal, bio, stone, Turkish, Finnish, infrared, steam- like all of them.
Ironically, they also had a salt room. Basically, you go in your hotel robe & sit there & stare at this huge salt lamp. On the wall there was a list of all the benefits & on that list was good for mood, & great for depression & anxiety.
So I sat there for 20 minutes, staring at this salt lamp, waiting for it to work it’s magical powers. After 20 minutes guys…I kid you fucking not, I felt 99% better. LITERALLY couldn’t believe it. I was out of my mind over it & almost wrote a blog post right there, on the spot. But I figured I’d wait & do some more research & get access to my own before I talked to you guys about it.

♡ Hatch Restore smart light & sound machine
Recently Michael bought this new machine that’s for smart sleep, meditation & is a sound machine too. Basically it’s a white noise machine, sunrise alarm, meditation app & alarm clock all in one.
Our friend, Danielle, recommended this to us- she RAVED about it. The best thing about this machine is that at 10pm it starts a meditation.
Let’s set the scene: there I am in bed, answering emails, then all the sudden this peaceful music comes on with an orange/reddish light. It starts to wind me down, lowers my cortisol & sets me up for an amazing sleep. Michael has always had trouble sleeping & he’s a huge fan of this product.
♡sound bowls
BEST EVER for peace. My sound bowls are beautiful, white, & frosted. The crazy thing is when I play the bowls (mastering this skill is actually really hard), my baby and dog stare in awe- they’re obsessed, just enamored. I take this as a good sign. We need to go through the details though.

For me, the biggest benefit is that it totally relaxes the whole house & the frequency of the room changes when I play them. So if Michael pisses me off & I want to stab him, I just go bong my white sound bowls.
They’re set up in my bedroom, 3 in a row, with these little black holders under them so they don’t roll around. In fact, they’re all lined up with their mallet & I absolutely love to play them when I wake up in the morning after opening the shades. Then at night, I turn on my salt rock lamp, the red lights & play the bowls again. In fact, it’s just the most meditative sound.

Just obsessed with the gold CBD pen from Pellequr. I’m not big on smoking but I love a couple puffs of this chic cbd pen before bed. It’s instantly relaxing. Heaven while reading a book.
♡ settle down spray by K’Pure

♡ oil diffuser
This is a must.
First, get the right oils. I love tangerine or lavender or valor. Sometimes I mix in grapefruit too. They’re all delicious.
When my favorite diffuser is misting, the scent comes out in the most SEXY way. It’s hard to explain over the computer but like the flow of the essential oils reminds me of the smoke that comes out of the hot-tempered, blue caterpillar’s hookah in Alice In Wonderland– you know what I mean? Like the mist just creates this very therapeutic, sexy situation- very feng shui-y.
♡ Bodum mug
These double-walled glass mugs are so chic. They were a recommendation from my friend Ingrid who said all the French girls use these for their tea & coffee. These are light-weight, BPA free & I swear you’ll never want to go back to a big white mug.
I love to have a cup of Pique ginger digestive tea before bed. Super obsessed with Pique tea right now.
MORE PRACTICES FOR A GREAT SLEEP:
♡ dim the lights
♡ limit electronics

SO THAT’S THAT! Optimize your sleep. Create a sleep den. Create a sanctuary. Make it peaceful, romantic. And most importantly make sure it lowers your cortisol. It’s easy to create a zen-like bedroom if you make it a point.
Sleep is your friend. It’s a huge part of your life! Pay attention to how you’re sleeping. Let’s be real here, I NEED MY BEAUTY SLEEP OR ELSE. Michael knows this.
