All adults in France will be able to get vaccinated against the coronavirus from May 31, two weeks earlier than originally planned, Prime Minister Jean Castex announced on Thursday.
People working in designated priority professions — including teachers, police officers and bus drivers — will be eligible from May 24.
The government had previously penciled in June 15 for allowing those over the age of 18 to get vaccinated.
“We need the highest possible vaccination rate,” Castex said at a vaccination center in Gagny on the outskirts of Paris, the FT reported. “We all remain vigilant, the virus is still there.”
France eased its lockdown on Wednesday, reopening outdoor spaces for bars and restaurants, as well as museums, cinemas and non-essential shops, and pushed its curfew two hours later to 9 p.m.
That allowed senior members of the government to enjoy what President Emmanuel Macron and his ministers called the art de vivre, the “art of living.”
