Ontario will allow youth aged 12 and over to begin booking their COVID-19 vaccine appointments starting this Sunday, a week earlier than scheduled.
The province was originally set to make the age eligibility for vaccinations 12+ on May 31.
To book an appointment using the online booking system, the individual must be 12 years old at the time of booking. If they are not 12 years old yet, residents can call the provincial call centre and book an appointment at a later date.
They will also be eligible to book appointments at pharmacies offering the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.
The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is currently the only COVID-19 vaccine approved for those 12 and older.
Some regions, like Peel and York, have already started allowing youth to book vaccine appointments and Toronto has been holding pop-ups for those 12 years of age and older over the last week.
Clinics for youth are still planned for the weeks of June 14 and 21.
The province says at their current vaccination rate, 65 per cent of all Ontarians 18 and older will have a first dose by the end of May and 10 million Ontarians will have a first dose by the end of June.
Ontario also expects all youth 12 and older to have their first dose before the end of June and a second dose by the end of August, right in time for the beginning of the school year.
