Véronique Mauffette’s two youngest children were fast asleep Saturday morning when their mother and older sister woke them up with exciting news.
Students under 18 were vaccinated against COVID-19 after lining up outside the Bill Durnan Arena.
Sophie Fox, 17, had just received a text from a friend saying students age 12-17 were being vaccinated at a walk-in clinic at the arena in Snowdon.
“They picked up whatever clothes they had on the floor and put them back on,” Mauffette recalled. “We just drove over there and weren’t sure it would happen.”
Within minutes, Sophie and her siblings, Sarah, 15 and Nicolas, 12, received their first shot of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
“It was such a smooth process,” Mauffette said. “We were having a little party in the car playing music and the kids convinced me to celebrate by buying ice cream.”
