HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA) – The City of Huntington Beach honored Harvey Milk Saturday in a ceremony where city leaders hoisted the pride flag at the pier.
The celebration honored California’s first openly gay person elected to public office. Milk was a San Francisco Supervisor. Both he and San Francisco Mayor George Moscone were assassinated in 1978 by disgruntled supervisor Dan White.

Officials in Huntington Beach say the pride flag will stay up for the entire month of June.
