The man gunned down in Coquitlam on Saturday appears to have been the man injured in a shooting last year while leaving a Vancouver pub with his young children.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team identified the weekend murder victim as Coquitlam resident Mir Aali Hussain, 42.
Police found Hussain on the ground beside his white 2020 Toyota Highlander with gunshot wounds in an alley off Hart Street and Henderson Avenue about 5:30 p.m. He was pronounced dead at scene, said IHIT’s Sgt. Frank Jang.
“The victim, Mir Hussain, was known to police,” Jang said. “We have not yet determined if this is linked to the ongoing Lower Mainland gang conflict.”
Neighbour said they heard several shots ring out, before police vehicles swarmed the area.
Court records obtained by Postmedia show a man with the identical three names and age was targeted by gunmen about 5:45 p.m. Oct. 6 as he left the Bells and Whistles pub at Dunbar and 29th Avenue carrying an infant.

Two men were charged with attempted murder in the shooting, including one who was already wanted in Ontario for kidnapping and first-degree murder.
Hussain was also with a woman and another young child, Vancouver Police Const. Tania Visintin said at the time.
“Somebody was looking out for that baby, for sure,” she said. “These two kids definitely had some guardian angels looking out for them.”
The shooters tried to flee in a car but hit a parked vehicle. They ran but were arrested by police.
Liban Hassan, 35, and Ahmed Ismail, 24, each face one count of attempted murder. Both are due back in Vancouver provincial court on May 31. Ismail is also charged for the kidnapping and slaying last summer in Milton, Ont., of a 16-year-old boy.
Jang said homicide investigators are looking for more information about the vehicle used Saturday — a stolen 2002 red Buick Century with a single hubcap on the rear passenger wheel.
He said it left immediately following the shooting and was found parked the next day near 260 Street and 30A Avenue in Aldergrove by Langley RCMP
“There were at least two people on board. This ‘suspect’ vehicle was seen driving in the area of Hart Street and Henderson Avenue for at least 20 minutes prior to the shooting,” Jang said.
There were stolen licence plates on the Buick that are believed to have been taken in Guildford on the day of the murder, Jang said.
“Investigators are working to establish a timeline of Hussain’s activities leading up to his murder in Coquitlam. Anyone with dash cam video and/or anyone who witnessed the shooting is urged to contact IHIT immediately,” he said.
Anyone with information or dash cam video is asked to contact IHIT at 1-877-551-4448 or ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
