I’m at that age where I’m constantly trying to upgrade the quality of sleep I’m trying to achieve on a nightly basis. First step towards this was bed supplies, from pillows to cool sheets, and finally a weighted blanket. Peak Bliss.
Now I heard that Bose had launched the Sleepbuds and have been wanting to try them since the first version. I was looking for something that could potentially block or replace sounds that could possibly disturb my sleep. Thankfully, I didn’t have to wait too long till I got my hands on the Bose SleepBuds II. I was hoping this would help unlock another dimension in my quest for that perfect sleep.
Bose Sleepbuds II
Design
The Bose Sleepbuds II are designed to be a very tiny pair or earpieces that aim to help you sleep with a combination of low and peaceful sounds and music. The buds work in tandem with a Bose Sleep app to help produce the required sounds. It must be noted that these buds are only meant for sleep and cannot be used to answer calls, be used for regular listening of music or podcasts or to watch videos.
In design, the Sleepbuds are coated in this soft-touch plastic and anti-friction silicone material that make them incredibly comfortable to wear over long periods of time. Their size makes them perfect to fit in your ear during your sleep duration. They come with three sets of tips so you can try which ones fit your ear the best.
The buds do fit very snug for most of the night and there were instances where they fell out when I slept on my side or during the usual toss and turn. Looking for these tiny guys in the middle of the night half asleep is no joy ride and quite a few times I would just take the other one out of my ear and continue to sleep without them.
Features
The sound library in the Bose Sleep app gives you access to three categories of sounds to sleep by. They are,
- Noise Masking – which help cover outside noises like snoring, traffic and voice.
- Tranquilities – which play relaxing environmental sounds to bring you peace of mind faster.
- Naturescapes – which play soothing nature-based audio to comfort you to sleep
You can cycle through these to see which suit you the best, in my case, Naturescapes and Tranquilities being chosen options.
Another interesting feature to have, since you cannot hear the outside world anymore, is that the buds alert you when you’re getting a call or if you’ve set an alarm through the Bose app.
Case
The case it comes in is designed like a fat disc that houses the buds comfortably. Battery life for the buds are up to 10 hours with a 6 hour charging time. So ideally charge through the day and use through the night.
Endgame
From what I’ve experienced with these buds, they are useful for sure and not just a gimmick like I’ve heard the first version was. The main question you have to ask yourself is whether you want to pay Dh1049 for a wearable that you’re going to be using mostly unconscious.
It all comes down to a very personal choice and this is a good thing since the Bose Sleepbuds 2 come with a 90-night risk-free trial. This means, if it isn’t helping improve your quality of sleep by then, its time to send it back.
