Chicago White Sox right-handed pitcher Michael Kopech began Thursday day-to-day because of left hamstring soreness following an awkward tumble he took pitching against the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday:
It’s now known the 25-year-old will miss at least a few days of action.
Ahead of Thursday’s matchup against the Baltimore Orioles, the White Sox placed Kopech on the bereavement list among several roster moves. Per MLB rules, he must miss a minimum of three days and no more than seven.
Kopech is 2-0 with a 1.72 ERA across 14 appearances and 31.1 innings of work this season.
“I’m not sure what happened on that play,” White Sox second baseman Nick Madrigal said of Kopech’s setback, according the club’s website. “I’m hoping that it’s nothing serious at all. I haven’t even seen him. I think he’s fine, but I’m not even sure what exactly happened.”
Kopech’s status beyond his stint on the bereavement list was unclear as of Thursday afternoon.
