Cindy McCain admitted in a new interview this week that she cringes at times while watching her daughter Meghan McCain on the ABC talk show “The View.”
Cindy McCain Discusses Her Daughter
Cindy told host Andy Cohen that people shouldn’t be surprised by her daughter’s fiery nature because her family nickname is “John McCain in a Dress.” She also said that Meghan is “doing a great job” on the show.
“She stands up for what she believes in, and that’s all that you can ask for,” Cindy said. “And she’s also really smart. So I appreciate what she does. I don’t always agree with her, but I do appreciate it.”
However, Cindy added that she sometimes is bothered when Meghan gets in fights with her cohosts, including with Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg.
“Yeah, from a mom ― you teach your children to be polite and be nice to other people and all that kind of stuff, and it does make me cringe a little bit,” Cindy said. “But again, it’s her job and it’s what she does, and it’s Whoopi’s job to keep the peace, so I understand everything that’s going on there. But as a mom, yeah, it does bother me a little bit.”

This comes after production sources told TMZ that ABC News President Kim Godwin called a last minute meeting of “The View’s” cohost and producers telling them they need to improve the behind-the-scenes culture of the show immediately.

The virtual meeting was called after ABC was flooded with pleas to fire McCain over her attacks on Behar, who it should be noted attacks the conservative quite a bit as well.
The insiders said that Godwin, who only just took over as head of ABC earlier this month, told the women that things have gotten way too personal on the show, not with the issues being debated, but with the personal attacks. She added that it’s coming off as toxic to viewers, and that she does not want the program to move in this direction any further.
McCain, however, was not having any of it. Sources said that she stormed out of the meeting before it ended because she felt like she was being “attacked.”
