The Fédération des travailleurs et travailleuses du Québec has reached an agreement in principle with Quebec affecting both wages and working conditions.
The president of the FTQ, Daniel Boyer, confirmed the deal Saturday, as did the president of the Treasury Board, Sonia LeBel.
It is the first of the three central labour organizations to reach a full agreement with Quebec that includes salary increases.
The deal provides for increases of 2 per cent per year for a three-year contract, with salary adjustments for several job categories. It also provides for a salary catch-up for the lowest employees from the third year of the employment contract.
Until now, Quebec had offered increases of 1.75 per cent, 1.75 per cent and 1.5 per cent with two lump sums and a possible increase of one per cent if inflation is above 5 per cent and if economic growth meets government projections.
In an interview with The Canadian Press, Boyer said he was “totally satisfied” with the agreement. “We got pretty much what we wanted,” he said.
The FTQ has 58,000 members in the public and parapublic sectors, education and health and social services.
