Hillary Clinton uses “posh” NYC restaurant outing story to promote COVID vaccine

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Friday used a New York Post story about her recent “posh” restaurant outing in New York City to promote the coronavirus vaccine.

On Thursday night, the Post published a story titled, “Bill and Hillary Clinton spotted at posh NYC restaurant with friends.” In the article, the outlet writes that Clinton was seen using both hands to drink a glass of wine at an eatery in the Upper West Side on Tuesday evening. “Clinton is really drinking in New York City’s post-coronavirus atmosphere,” the articles read.

Clinton shared a screenshot of the article’s headline and photos to Twitter on Friday afternoon. “Get vaccinated. Then get a glass of wine with your friends,” she wrote.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated their guidelines for mask use and social distancing in the pandemic earlier this month. Under the new guidance, people who have been fully vaccinated “can resume activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance.”

People are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines or two weeks after their single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Clinton’s latest vaccine PSA came months after she joined former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter, as well as ex-first ladies Michelle Obama, Laura Bush and Rosalynn Carter, to encourage vaccinations in a March ad campaign. A 60-second video featured a photo of Hillary Clinton receiving the vaccine.

Later that month, the ex-secretary of state urged President Joe Biden to do more to help the vaccination efforts of poorer countries. “So this is the kind of leadership that the United States has historically been known for which frankly we should be lifting up and doing more of,” she said in an interview.

Donald and Melania Trump didn’t participate in the ex-presidents vaccine campaign. But in April, Clinton’s daughter, Chelsea Clinton, urged the ex-Republican president to “do the right thing” and promote the vaccine with photos of his own vaccination.

“Given that we know white Republican men are currently the most vaccine-wary,” Chelsea Clinton said in an appearance on ABC’s The View. “I said last year, even before we had any vaccines that had received emergency use authorization, that I hoped President Trump and his whole family would be out in front getting vaccinated when it was their turn to do so.”
