Re: City moves to change bylaw limiting riverfront building height, in order to get Celestial Beacon built, by Brian Cross, April 27
The best drive in Windsor is driving along Riverside Drive with the unobstructed view of the river, especially now that Detroit has changed the approach to their riverfront, adding more park lands.
I fear that a change to the bylaw to allowing building along the riverfront could open up further building at later dates that could negatively affect views along Riverside Drive.
As a lifelong Windsor resident and having seen the changes along the riverfront for the better, it would be a mistake to go backwards if this bylaw were to allow building on the riverfront — this time for the Celestial Beacon to house the streetcar, but in the future could be used to build other buildings such as the “The Plywood Palace” that was the former Holiday Inn.
If there needs to be a building to display the restored street car, might I suggest the area north of the new city hall. This location would be in walking distance to downtown and an attraction to the downtown area and businesses.
