NEW DELHI: The Buckingham Palace on Thursday announced that Queen Elizabeth II will meet US president Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden on June 13 at Windsor Castle.
This will be the first time the two leaders will be meeting face-to-face in over two years. This will also be the monarch’s first in-person meeting with a foreign leader in over a year.
Furthermore, the meeting follows the Queen’s official birthday on June 12, as well as the three-day-long summit of Group of Seven (G7) leaders hosted at Cornwall. The G7 summit will kick off Biden’s first foreign tour since he took office in January.
During her 69-year-long reign, the Queen has met every US president with the exception of Lyndon B Johnson. Biden’s meeting will follow former president Donald Trump’s controversial visit to the UK in June 2019.
