AsianScientist (Jun. 4, 2021) – From the lovably innocent WALL-E to the terrifying Terminators, robots have made their mark in science fiction—and increasingly, in the real world too. In the second season of Asian Scientist Magazine’s YouTube series, #AskAnExpert, meet the skilful (and sassy!) robots on Singapore’s shores.
With 918 robots for every 10,000 employees, the Little Red Dot boasts the highest densities of robots in the world—with South Korea coming in second at 868 robots per 10,000 employees. While historically robots are used to cut and assemble parts in factories, these mechanical wonders can do so much more.
Earlier this month, for instance, the six-wheeled Zhurong rover landed on Mars, marking China’s first foray into exploring the Red Planet. Elsewhere, robots are also being used in operating rooms, assisting surgeons in delicate procedures.
Given their many talents, #AskAnExpert Season Two is set to explore the weird, wonderful world of robots in Singapore each week starting June 8, 2021. Join 11-year-old Shrujay as he chats with social robot Nadine and 10-year-old Mikayla in her visit to the floor-cleaning Leobot—and get the chance to win exciting prizes like a robot vaccuum or a smart speaker!
So stay tuned to the next season of #AskAnExpert, and who knows, you may even bring home a robot of your own!
