TEARING IT UP
The city announced that sidewalk snow removal will be extended to all Toronto residents (“Snow clearing expanded,” Bryan Passifiume, May 18). As such, can they please inform their drivers to stop ripping up our lawns? Between last year and this year, I have had to re-sod, as did most of our neighbours. This is not a public service, just a major annoyance.

(Did you try to address this with your city councillor? You and your neighbours may have a remedy there)
TRUMPED BY BIDEN
Re “Missing the Donald” (Letters to the Editor, May 23): There so many things to miss about Trump. Racism extraordinaire, boorish bullying, world-record recorded lies, alliances with tyrant leaders while denigrating allies, tax evader, fake university, hidden tax returns, hidden education marks, virus denying, election result denying, election interference, health-care detractor with no other plan to replace it, racism, needs to be repeated. I am sure I have missed a lot more. Biden is no great leader, but he will be too busy cleaning the former guy’s messes to challenge that record. Miss him? Please, if you make me laugh again, I’ll burst my stitches.

HAIR NATION
Contrary to Forrest Gump’s admonition — never cut your own hair — I’ve been doing it for 20 years. It isn’t that difficult and with a little practice, one can get reasonably proficient. Admittedly, the motivation was financial — I calculate I’ve saved approximately $10,000 over those 20 years. As a pensioner, that ain’t hay! I also was able to give my father regular haircuts as well and never got any complaints. I offer this as an alternative to the grotesque manes sported by Mayor Tory (I mean, really!), Premier Doug Ford and the foppish do of our prime minister. There’s no need for any of them to appear in public looking like aging hippies. Just sayin’.

EN FRANÇAIS
Shame on the three federal political parties. Quebec is doing it again. Trying to save the “French” language with erroneous rules and regulations and weakening the Canadian Constitution. The citizens of Canada living in Quebec are going to have their personal freedoms to live in their language and also work in their language, which might not be French, eroded. This is totally unjust. It is like regimes run by authoritarian dictatorships that try to impose such restrictions. I feel the three parties (Bloc not included) are being traitorous to the rest of Canada by not objecting furiously to the planned Quebec legislation. The federal Liberal Party is now led by a kow-towing left winger bowing to the Chinese government and not even peeping on the destruction of the rights for all Canadians. The other two parties are not too far behind them in a lackluster defence of true Canadian values. This is a cry from an old ex-Quebecer.
