The driver of a personal watercraft died Saturday night after falling into the water on an excursion in the St. Lawrence River.
The 34-year-old man was retrieved from the river around 6 p.m.
A little earlier, a 911 call had alerted Montreal police about a man who had fallen off a personal watercraft and was adrift in the water near the Jacques-Cartier bridge.
Members of the Longueuil fire department’s nautical team managed to rescue the man, who was unconscious. He was transported to a nearby hospital.
Around 10 p.m., Montreal police confirmed the man had “succumbed to his injuries.”
An investigation is underway to try to determine the circumstances that led to the accident.
