Alongside its iPhone 12 series, Apple announced the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max today. These flagship smartphones push the boundaries of innovation, equip the latest processing and come with re-imagined pro camera systems.
Superior 5G experiences
Both the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone Pro Max boast an advanced 5G experience on a global scale. They improve speeds for faster downloads, uploads and video streaming allowing you to have a more reliable connection anywhere you go. They also feature most 5G bands with US models specifically sporting millimetre wave for higher frequency 5G resulting in faster speeds. Moreover, you also find a Smart Data mode extending battery life by intelligently assessing 5G needs and balancing data usage, speed and power in real time.
Powerful A14 Bionic chip
The A14 Bionic is the first chip in the smartphone industry to be built on the 5-nanometer process. It is faster and more efficient in not only running iOS 14 but also enables console-quality gaming experiences and powerful computational photography.
To push the limits of machine learning (ML), the A14 Bionic comes with a 16-core Neural Engine for an 80 per-cent increase in performance.
New design and innovative displays
The iPhone 12 Pro series boasts a new, sophisticated flat-edge IP68 protected design coming with a surgical-grade stainless steel band paired with a precision-milled matte glass back made of Ceramic Shield. The durable Ceramic Shield material is found on the front cover too, which goes beyond glass and increases drop performance by 4x.
While the iPhone 12 Pro sports a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display, the iPhone 12 Pro Max comes with a 6.7-inch panel. Not only do you get industry-leading colour accuracy but the iPhone 12 Pro Max offers the largest display ever on an iPhone featuring 3.5 million pixels. The OLED displays on the devices also bring HDR video content to life, reaching a 1,200nit peak brightness.
Versatile camera system
Combined with the smartphone’s processing, the cameras on the iPhone 12 Pro series see a big upgrade. You benefit from increase image quality and powerful computational photography. Moreover, both smartphones also feature the new Apple ProRAW coming later this year which combines Apple multiframe image processing with the versatility of a RAW format as well as an all-new LiDAR scanner for capturing depth information in a scene.
This year, we see different cameras on the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, with the latter getting better specifications. On the iPhone 12 Pro, you find a 12MP primary wide camera with an f/1.6 aperture, a 12MP ultra-wide camera and a 52mm 12MP telephoto camera bringing 4x optical zoom. On the other hand, the iPhone Pro Max sports a new 12MP primary wide camera with an f/1.6 aperture and a 47 per-cent larger sensor. It also includes a 12MP ultra-wide camera and a 65mm 12MP telephoto camera for a 5x optical zoom range.
The iPhone 12 Pro series also benefits from the same enhancements seen on the regular iPhone 12 series. Things like Night mode on all cameras, a Night mode Time-Lapse and Smart HDR 3 for more true-to-life images. They are also the first and only smartphone cameras to bring end-to-end HDR video with Dolby Vision, up to 60fps and even better video stabilisation. With Dolby Vision, you can take advantage of the Super Retina XDR display for amazing contrast and video playback.
MagSafe is back
To improve the wireless charging experience, the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max come with MagSafe. Through this, you get an efficient and seamless experience with magnets around the wireless charging coil of the smartphone.
This makes your iPhone connect perfectly every time, with MagSafe chargers giving you 15W of power.
Pricing and availability
The Apple iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone Pro Max will be available in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB models in graphite, silver, gold and blue starting at Dh4,199 and Dh4,699 respectively. Pre-orders for the iPhone 12 Pro start on October 16 with availability beginning on October 23. On the other hand, pre-orders for the iPhone 12 Pro Max begin on November 6 with availability beginning on November 13. As part of Apple’s commitment to the environment, the iPhone 12 Pro series will ship without a charging adaptor and wired earphones, coming only with a Type-C to Lightning charging cable.
