Regular Flight Operations to resume from January 2021 says Civil Aviation Minister

At a B-School event held in India lately, Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that normal air travel will resume regularly as it was before the coronavirus pandemic swept across the planet. It might resume late December 2020 or early January 2021 the minister said.

Mr. Puri also said that the airline sector reopened on May 25 which is around 2 months after complete lockdown and was serving around 30,000 passengers per day. The number shot up to 2.25 lakh passengers due to the festive occasion of Deepavali.

He also added that civil aviation is operating at 70% capacity and passengers are allowed in a calibrated manner and they are devising plans to operate up to at least 80% capacity and by the end of December 2020 or early January 2021 the normal phase of airline travel will resume.

Reportedly, Puri also said that once civil aviation in the country starts operating one should follow the safety rules mandatorily. Meanwhile, flights from the UK, USA, and Japan continue to operate to and from under the new travel bubble arrangement.
