Two shooting incidents in Surrey have left two people dead over the past 24 hours.
On Sunday night, a young man was found clinging to life inside a vehicle after being shot. The man, 19-year-old Harman Singh Dhesi, was suffering from several gunshot wounds and later died in hospital.
Sgt. Frank Jang of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said emergency services were called to the area of 137A Street and 90 Avenue (near Creekside Elementary School) at 10:30 p.m. for a man in a vehicle needing medical assistance.
“The victim was known to police and his shooting is believed to be a targeted incident. Investigators will be working to determine motive,” Jang said.
Then on Monday night, Surrey RCMP responded to an incident in the 11000-block of 148A Street at around 7:30 p.m. and found a victim with gunshot wounds, who later died.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been called in and will be working in partnership with the Surrey RCMP Major Crime Section.
“The initial phase of any investigation is critical for us as we move quickly to secure time-sensitive and perishable evidence. We are appealing to anyone with dash cam video to secure the footage and to contact us immediately,” said Jang.
Homicide investigators are looking to see if a burned vehicle found in the area of 176 Street and Ford Detour Road in Pitt Meadows at 1:55 a.m. on Monday is linked to Sunday night’s shooting.
