Police have noted an uptick in gun crimes since last spring and have put together a new squad to deal with such crimes, as well as to tackle the trafficking of illegal firearms. The squad is targeting areas where most of the recent violent incidents occurred, including Montreal North, Ahuntsic, Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, Rivière-des-Prairies and Old Montreal.
