More than 20.7 million Covid-19 tests have been carried out in the UAE so far.
The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Wednesday reported 1,723 cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, along with 1,607 recoveries.
Three deaths were also reported. As many as new 150,244 Covid-19 tests were carried out, taking the total number of tests carried out in the country to more than 20.7 million so far.
On Tuesday, the country announced that ‘limited cases’ of the new strain of Covid-19 had been identified in passengers entering the UAE from abroad. “These cases were discovered because of the strict scanning and testing operations done on a daily basis nationwide,” said Dr Omar Abdulrahman Al Hammadi, spokesman of the UAE Government.

A health official also noted that Dubai is planning to inoculate 70 per cent of its population with the Covid-19 vaccine produced by Pfizer and BioNTech by the end of 2021. The campaign will offer the vaccine free of charge for citizens and residents alike. Farida Al Khaja, chairwoman of Dubai’s steering committee for Covid-19 vaccinations further said a second phase would kick off in April and would be open to all citizens and residents.
Meanwhile, up to 80 per cent of the WHO’s healthcare supplies have passed through the International Humanitarian City in Dubai, making the country a major hub in the global fight against the pandemic.
