Windsor police have recently charged two groups with breaking pandemic rules.
During the week of Dec. 20 to 26, officers responded to a religious gathering and found it to be over capacity, violating the Reopening Ontario Act, police said in a news release on Wednesday. The indoor capacity limit for religious services is 10 people.
Police also laid a charge at a fitness facility that was open for business. Under the province’s grey lockdown restrictions, fitness facilities are required to remain closed.
Separately, officers issued a warning at an indoor social gathering with more than five attendees, the limit for such gatherings in Ontario at the time.
“The Windsor Police Service would like to remind the community of the importance to follow directions from health professionals in order to limit the spread of COVID-19,” police said.
“The vast majority of our community understand and respect these directions.”
Residents can report COVID-19 related enforcement complaints to the City of Windsor by calling 311, the Town of Amherstburg at 519-736-0012, and after hours through the non-emergency Windsor police line, 519-258-6111.
