Emergency treatment for hypothermia was provided immediately. As the cat was actively rewarmed, tucked into a heated tent and given thermal IV fluids, “staff waited anxiously to see if she would respond,” Drever said.
Gradually, the cat gained alertness, growing bright and curious, and soon, she was purring and kneading smocks all over the place. The animal turned out to be “extremely friendly,” which is always ideal when you thaw a creature found frozen.
“She obviously had a little kitty angel watching over her,” said Drever, “as her injuries could have easily been fatal.”
The cat was run over twice in the road, suffering a badly broken back leg, below the knee joint. An X-ray depicting her injuries was provided.
As well, she has skin wounds from road rash. But she will survive her life-threatening ordeal. She’ll get better. She’ll get a name, and after that, a warm forever home.
In the meantime, the SPCA is seeking donations for her ongoing medical care.
