The Dubai Police Command & Control Centre on Sunday recorded 24 traffic accidents — including two major ones — between 6am to 9am, due to the heavy fog that blanketed several areas of the emirate.
The centre also noted it handled 1,810 emergency calls during the same time period today.
Colonel Turki Abdurrahman bin Fares, Director of Command and Control Centre at Dubai Police, said they experienced a 30 per cent increase in the number of calls received today, as compared to the previous Sunday, when the centre handled 1,257 emergency calls and recorded 26 traffic accidents (including one major accident).

He said that the General Department of Operations, in coordination with its counterparts in the neighbouring emirates, implemented the ‘Fog System’ early on Sunday morning in light of the poor weather conditions.
The system halts the movement of trucks and heavy vehicles on highways during foggy weather in order to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and minimise the risk of major accidents.
