A mysterious loud sound was heard in Karnataka’s Shivamogga district on Thursday night, followed by what many of Twitter claimed to be tremors.
The sound was heard around 10:20 pm in Shivamogga, and led to reports of tremors even from nearby Chikkamagaluru district.
It is currently unclear what caused the loud sound, with many on Twitter wondering if it was a sonic boom or an earthquake.
Neither the National Centre for Seismology or United States Geological Survey (USGS) websites show any record of an earthquake in the region. A Met officer too told reporters that so far no earthquake has been recorded.
Many posted photos of shattered glasses and minor damage to buildings and people on the streets following the mysterious sound.

Shivamogga is Chief Minister BS Yeddiyurappa’s home district.
Last year, in May, residents of Bengaluru were left puzzled by a mysterious boom, that later turned out to be the sonic boom of a test aircraft.
