The Twitter feud between Seth Rogen and Republican senator Ted Cruz continued into the early hours on Sunday, with the senator saying the actor behaves like a “Marxist with Tourette’s” online.
The pair have been sparring over topics ranging from the Paris climate accord to Disney’s Fantasia over the past few days.
“Everyone who made that film would hate you,” the Superbad star responded to a tweet from Cruz on Friday, where he had cited Fantasia as the first film he saw in a movie theater.
Cruz replied: “They’re all dead. So I think we’re good. And Walt Disney was a Republican. Even though you behave online like a Marxist with Tourette’s (screaming “F U! F U!” is really, really clever), your movies are typically pretty funny. I’m sure you hate that I enjoy them.”
In a reply, Rogen noted he has family members with Tourette’s syndrome, and a mild case himself.
“As someone who has Tourette’s in their family (and also has a very mild case himself), I once again take great pleasure in telling you to go f**k yourself. (Also VERY few cases of Tourette’s manifest in uncontrollable swearing. Most cases, like mine, manifest in twitching.),” he wrote.
In another tweet, he added: “All jokes aside, @tedcruz is a fascist piece of sh*t.”
Cruz only responded to the second tweet, writing: “All jokes aside, @Sethrogen is a moron. It’s your party that believes in govt power: to shut your business, to oppress your faith & to censor your speech. Anyone who disagrees, they try to cancel.’
He added that “a lot of folks in Hollywood are conservative—& muzzled by the fascist Left.”
Cruz and Rogen’s social media war began earlier this week after the Texas senator condemned President Joe Biden for rejoining the Paris Agreement that former president Donald Trump had pulled the United States out of.
Rogen called Cruz a “fascist,” prompting Cruz to screengrab the actor’s tweet and add: “If you’re a rich, angry Hollywood celebrity, today’s Dems are the party for you.”
“Haha get f**ked fascist. Go encourage a white supremacist insurrection again you f**king clown,” Rogen hit back, referencing Cruz’s support of Trump’s baseless claims of election fraud that culminated in his supporters storming the U.S. Capitol on January 6, leading to five people’s deaths and the former president’s impeachment for an unprecedented second time.
In another tweet, the actor added: “If you’re a white supremacist fascist who doesn’t find it offensive when someone calls your wife ugly, Ted Cruz is the exact motherf**ker for you.”
Several of Rogen’s actor friends also weighed in.
“Mr. Senator, as @sethrogen’s non-threatening buddy, perhaps I can translate “fascist” into more charming and civil terms,” wrote Joseph Gordon-Levitt. “Your support of the former President’s attempts to baselessly overturn a democratic election is reminiscent of supporters of Hitler, Mussolini, and others.”
Billy Eichner joked: “Ted Cruz doing clumsy Trump cosplay is so embarrassing. Sweetie, you don’t have *it*. You are simply NOT a star! Sorry!”
Representatives for Cruz and Rogen have been contacted for additional comment.
