Quick action by passersby likely saved the life of a driver in Kingsville Sunday morning after a van stuck in a ditch caught fire.
At approximately 12:05 a.m., provincial police received information about a single motor vehicle collision off County Road 31, police said in a news release on Monday.
Before officers arrived, the van in the ditch began to smoke and caught fire. Citizens on the scene who had stopped to call for help pulled the driver from the van to a safe location while they waited for emergency crews to get there.
The driver was taken to hospital with what police described as non-life threatening injuries.
Police thank the members of the public who stopped to help the driver.
The investigation into the crash remains active.
