Power comes from FCA’s 3.6L Pentastar V6, here making 287 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. It is hooked to a smooth-shifting 9-speed auto.
Gazing upon this Pinnacle’s lovely perforated, diamond-quilted Caramel leather with contrasting piping, you’d be forgiven for thinking FCA has jumped in bed with Bentley. Okay, so the shiny fake wood trim is a giveaway, as is the not-quite-real metallic accents, but overall it presents an embracing ambience that erases any notion of a minivan being a penalty box. More of a theatre box. In this case.
FCA’s Uconnect touchscreen interface has always been one of the best of its ilk, and this revised Uconnect 5 ups the game with slicker graphics and five times the processing speed. The standard 10.1-inch screen shows pin-sharp graphics, and the standard 20-speaker Harman Kardon audio is exceptional.
This van is a delight to drive. The cabin is luxury-car quiet, outward visibility excellent, and the abundance of knobs and buttons on the dash make accessing most function safe and easy. The steering feels natural and well-weighted, and it directs this long box with surprising accuracy.
The Pinnacle will carve a corner with car-like acumen, no doubt helped along by these meaty 20-inch tires. If Mom or Dad have a bit of petrol in their veins, turning the Pinnacle’s third row into a barfatorium on a winding back road would be all too easy.
We had a major snowstorm during my time with the Pinnacle, and even wearing all-season tires it got around effortlessly. Put proper winter tires on this van and it would go through winter like Christmas tinsel through a dog.
