On Thursday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis compared his state’s COVID policies to those of Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York, stating, “I barred hospitals from discharging COVID patients back into nursing homes.”
On “Fox News Primetime,” DeSantis said that his state has focused on protecting the state’s elderly population instead of commanding mass lockdowns.
“That was able to save a lot of lives on the front end.”

DeSantis: ‘I Barred Hospitals From Discharging COVID Patients Back Into Nursing Homes’
Speaking of how his state has handled the pandemic, DeSantis told Fox News, “I think we’ve done a couple things. One, we’ve focused protection on elderly people, rather than trying to shut the entire society down.”
The governor added, “So, at the front end of the pandemic, I barred hospitals from discharging COVID patients back into nursing homes. That was able to save a lot of lives on the front end.”
“And now, here on, hopefully, the back end of the pandemic, our approach to vaccination is putting seniors first,” DeSantis added.

DeSantis vs. Cuomo
DeSantis’ interview comes in the wake of the New York Times reporting on Thursday that New York and its Governor Andrew Cuomo have undercounted coronavirus deaths in nursing homes.
The Political Insider reported Thursday that New York Attorney General Letitia James, a Democrat, “is accusing Cuomo and his administration, particularly officials at the State Health Department, of undercounting COVID deaths at nursing homes by as much as 50%.”
“State officials had more recently listed the number of deaths at 8,500,” TPI noted.
The report continued, “If the 50% tally is accurate, the final number could end up being close to 13,000 seniors who died in nursing homes, or who were transported to hospitals and died after having contracted the infection there.”
Liberals had 1/100th of the evidence against DeSantis as there is evidence against Cuomo here.
Those that can’t admit Cuomo is more liable…well, partisanship is a horrible drug.

Don’t Expect The Media To Give DeSantis Credit
While the media and Democrat politicians blasted DeSantis for avoiding lockdowns at the height of the coronavirus pandemic, they also lavished praise on Gov Cuomo, who did not hesitate to take more heavy-handed measures.
The deadliest action he took – ordering nursing homes to accept COVID positive patients – now seems far worse than was originally reported.
And DeSantis looks far better in retrospect. But don’t expect the media or its allies in Washington to admit it.
