How does getting this vaccine make you feel?
It makes me feel strong, I am not immune, but I now have one more tool to use against the virus.
What does getting this vaccine mean to you?
Getting this vaccine means that we are now one step closer to being safer. I work at a retirement home and knowing the residents have been vaccinated brings me some more peace of mind. There is still a risk of disaster but at least the chances of it have decreased.
What would you say to someone who feels hesitant about getting the vaccine?
I had some concerns at first but after getting it, there was really no reason for me to have those concerns. From my experience, side effects were rare and most people just end up with a sore arm for a day or so. It is completely worth it to have another layer of protection, and to take one step closer to getting us out of this pandemic.
What have been some of your favorite ways to stay physically active during the pandemic?
Walking the dogs or watching some TV show or movie while working out is great motivator for me.
How have you been taking care of your emotional wellbeing during the pandemic?
Helping the residents at the retirement home, along with staying connected with others, and giving myself some time has helped my emotional wellbeing.
How do you stay connected with others?
I reach out to those I have not heard from in a while. I give them a call or text and see what they have been up to. I have been amazed by the number of people I’ve been able to reconnect and stay connected with through doing this.
Now that you have received the first dose of the vaccine, what is the next thing that you will be holding onto for hope?
I will be holding on to the fact that I was one of the first to get it and that many more are going to be getting it after me.
Do you have any positive words of encouragement for members of our audience who are feeling completely drained and burnt out from this pandemic?
Keep on holding in there. You may feel like there is nothing to do or have way too much to do. My advice to counter some of this is to set goals and make time for yourself. Find what gives you motivation and focus on that.
