A tip from the public led New Westminster police to the arrest of a man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for second-degree murder in Calgary.
On Tuesday, police followed up on a report of a man matching the description of a suspect in the murder of 20-year-old Kyreese Wright, who was found stabbed to death on the morning of Dec. 16 in Panorama Hills, near Calgary.
Officers found the 19-year-old suspect, Michael Elendu, at a Sapperton-area residence, where he was arrested without incident and had his identity confirmed as the wanted suspect.
Wright had been found by police attending a report of a man suffering from multiple stab wounds on 11 a.m. on Dec. 16 in the Panorama Hills area. He was deceased by the time paramedics arrived.
“We are pleased that our members were able to locate this individual and take him into custody without incident,” said NWPD Sgt. Sanjay Kumar. “While the original incident didn’t occur in our community, the serious nature of the charges would indicate that this individual needed to be arrested so the judicial process can begin.”
Elendu is being held by the NWPD pending arrangements being made for him to be returned to Calgary to face his charges there.
