With COVID-19 cases declining, Windsor Regional Hospital will ease restrictions for visitors at its Metropolitan and Ouellette campuses and the Regional Cancer Centre starting Wednesday.
The hospital will allow one “essential” visitor for each patient once a day at a specified time. A patient can choose up to two people to rotate visits.
However, patients with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 will still not be allowed visitors because of the high risk. Those patients can have virtual visits using technology such as iPads.
Visitors considered “essential” are those visiting a patient who is dying or severely ill, a parent or guardian of a youth who is a patient, someone supporting a pregnant patient in labour, visitors of patients who require physical assistance, and those providing essential support to a patient.
Two time periods will be available to visit: 10 a.m. to noon and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., except in critical care units where the visiting time is 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
More than one visitor will be allowed in certain circumstances. Two visitors can rotate 24/7 for palliative patients. Two visitors can also visit 24/7 when a patient is near end of life. One visit of up to four people, including those under age 18 when accompanied by an adult, could also be approved.
More than one visitor may also be allowed for mental health care patients and pregnant patients in labour in certain circumstances. See the hospital’s website for details.
Essential visitors will be restricted if they are under age 18 (except in the case noted above), are symptomatic, have been outside Canada in the last 14 days, have tested positive for COVID-19 and their cases remain active, have had close contact with a confirmed or probable case, or have had close contact with a person with an acute respiratory illness who has been outside of Canada in the 14 days before their symptom onset.
