If you head on over to Steam today you’ll find Rage 2 on sale, down from $59.99 to just $17.99. It’s a very tempting offer for the first-person shooter, but you’d kick yourself for buying it.
Next week, Rage 2 is launching on the Epic Games Store, and for the first seven days it will be completely free to add to your account. So rather than spending $17.99 now, just wait for Feb. 18 to arrive and head on over to Epic’s store. That gets you the base game, but there is a Deluxe Edition. Pricing has yet to be revealed by Epic (it’s $23.99 in the Steam sale), but it will get you Rise of the Ghosts Expansion, DOOM BFG, Wasteland Wizard Cheat Codes, Progress Booster, and Battle Standard as well as the base game. Options are also planned for purchasing in-game currency, known as RAGE Coins, to spend in the store.
Rage 2 is the sequel to id Software’s 2011 Rage, but this time development was handled through a collaboration with Avalanche Studios, which is best known for the Just Cause series. The game received mixed reviews when it launched in 2019, with PCMag concluding, “Rage 2 is a fantastic action game, if judged purely on your ability to blow away post-apocalyptic punks. However, its mediocre story and gameplay padding dulls the experience a bit.”
Regardless, as a shooter it’s excellent even if the open world is a bit lifeless. The fact it’s going to be free next week also means you can judge for yourself without spending any money. To enjoy the game at its best, an Intel Core i7-4770 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X processor, 8GB of RAM, and a GeForce GTX 1070 8GB or AMD Vega 56 8GB graphics card are recommended.
