Jonjo Shelvey has delievered a fascinating insight into what it’s like to play Leeds United – and admits he would not fancy playing for Marcelo Bielsa.
The Yorkshire side have made great strides since securing their return to the Premier League. With 11 wins under their belt, they face Aston Villa on Saturday evening in the top half of the table.
Indeed, a win over Villa would represent their second league double of the season. The first team they beat home and away, Newcastle, saw the Whites prevail by an aggregate scoreline of 7-3.
Their most recent win came with a 2-1 win at St James’ Park in January. And having played in the match, Shelvey has given an amusing insight into a conversation he had mid-match with Leeds star Rodrigo Moreno.
Speaking to the Studs Up podcast, he said: “We played Leeds at St James’ Park probably about a month ago, and that Rodrigo fella was in the middle.
“He was meant to be playing centre-midfield, and he was just all over the place.
“I said to him, ‘Geez, can you just stand still for one minute? Because you’re just running round like a nutcase’.
“Even like some of it was just pointless running.
“But he goes, ‘I must do, I must do. My manager tells me I must do’.”
Shelvey added with a laugh: “I couldn’t play for Leeds!”

Shelvey can’t wait to have fans back
The Newcastle midfielder admits fans have been badly missed inside stadiums this season. And he admits trips to Elland Road are always lively affairs when played in front of a full house.
When asked what it is like to come up against the Whites, Shelvey added: “They do run everywhere, but they obviously leave themselves open.
“Obviously, we lost the game, but I just think it’s been a shame that they’ve not been able to have fans in the stadium.
“I played against Leeds in the Championship for Newcastle and even then it was just bouncing. I can’t wait to play there when the fans are in.”
