A leading government adviser has predicted Britons will all have a summer holiday this year but warned the NHS had to prepare for a possible “hard winter” ahead.
Dr Susan Hopkins told Andrew Marr that we could see “surges in flu” as well as other respiratory viruses because public health measures against Covid-19 could mean there is less “population immunity”.
The Public Health England doctor went on to say that contact tracing and NHS preparedness are important ahead of a “difficult autumn”.
