The armed assault on Friday in the St-Michel neighbourhood in Montreal is now considered a suicide attempt.
“Everything indicates that the victim inflicted the stab wounds himself (after an argument),” said agent Raphaël Bergeron, spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) , early Saturday morning.
The event was preceded by a dispute between tenants of an apartment on 15th Avenue, near Boulevard Crémazie in the St-Michel district, a little before 9 p.m.
Three men were present at the scene of the assault, including the victim who is in his 60s.
The other two men, who live in the same building as the victim, were met by the police. Their testimonies are consistent with the developments of the police investigation.
The 60-year-old man was still fighting for his life on Friday night.
