Messaging app Telegram’s new update helps put it more in line with offerings like the iOS-only Clubhouse.
According to Android Police, the update introduced support for live listeners across channels and public groups. Like Clubhouse, this lets users jump into ongoing discussions to listen or take place. There’s even a “raise hand” button for participants to make use of to keep things from getting too rowdy.
Clubhouse has been a popular method for users to get together and discuss various issues, pop culture events, and industry experiences. It’s unfortunately still invite-only, so even if you do happen to use Android and want to participate, you must have an invite from someone already using the app to jump in and join everyone. That makes it a bit more closed-off for new people who want to take part in a discussion as well.
The feature is open for regular discussion, but it also lets users record voice chats. Channels being recorded will be denoted with a red dot. This is a great feature for anyone looking to invite new listeners to potential podcasts or recordings in the future.
There are a few other changes as of this update, too, like the option that makes it simpler to switch between groups before sending links as well as a resume playback button.
This makes Telegram a great alternative for would-be Clubhouse users on Android, which the app isn’t currently available on. The update will likely have already rolled out to your version of Telegram on Android, but if you haven’t seen these new features appear, you may want to push through a manual update.
