Ten dead in shooting at store in Colorado — follow live

The shooting at the King Soopers store in Colorado is the seventh mass killing this year in the US.

The data has been compiled by The Associated Press, USA Today and Northeastern University. 

Last week, eight people were killed in shootings at three Atlanta-area spas. Seven of the eight killed were women and six people were of Asian descent. 

Reacting to the Colorado shooting, majority leader Chuck Schumer said the Senate “must and will move forward on legislation to help stop the epidemic of gun violence.”

He also said that the situation in Boulder is being closely monitored. 

Ryan Borowski, who was inside the King Soopers store on Monday, told CNN that he nearly got killed for getting a soda and a bag of chips. 

He said he and the people around him started running after hearing the third loud sound. 

“We told employees what was going on so everybody helped each other and we just ran to safety as quickly as we could,” Mr Borowski told CNN. 

He said that “Boulder feels like a bubble and the bubble burst and that’s heartbreaking. To think that people died today.”

Ten people were killed in the mass shooting on Monday, including a police officer. 

Colorado governor Jared Polis said in a statement about the Boulder shooting that “today we saw the face of evil.”

He said that “this year we have been surrounded by loss of life, illness and isolation, and the deep grief that has accompanied the loss of life as we know it.”

Mr Polis said he is grieving with his community and all Coloradans.

Colorado senator Michael Bennet said in a statement that “as the investigation continues, we need to revisit a national conversation about gun violence that does not regress into partisanship.”

He also said “it’s long past time for Congress to take meaningful action to keep deadly weapons out of the wrong hands.”

“Enough is enough.” 

Boulder Police Chief Maris Herold told CNN that the investigation into the shooting was “very complex” and would take no less than five days to complete. 

Ten people, including police officer Eric Talley, were killed in the mass shooting on Monday.

Police have arrested one suspect, but didn’t reveal his name or any other details. 

Commenting on the shooting, Rep. Lauren Boebert tweeted that “random public shootings and senseless acts of violence are never ok.”

“My prayers are with the shoppers, employees, first responders & others affected by the shooting in Boulder.”

She was earlier criticised for tweeting about Joe Biden as police responded to the shooting at a Colorado grocery store.

Police have confirmed ten people were killed in the mass shooting in Boulder on Monday afternoon.

Boulder Police Chief Maris Herold confirmed the death toll at a press conference: “My heart goes out to the victims of this incident. I am grateful for the officers who responded.” 

Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser said in a statement that he was angry at another act of ‘unspeakable violence’ in the state.

“I’m deeply saddened and angered with the news of another tragic shooting in Colorado,” he said.

“I’m thinking of all our fellow Coloradans in Boulder who were affected by the unspeakable violence that occurred at King Soopers on Table Mesa.”

Police tweeted an active shooter alert in Boulder shortly before 3 pm local time, with a video showing a handcuffed man, shirtless and covered in blood, escorted from the building about 30 minutes later.
