The recent Windsor Works Report described some essential steps that the city needs to take.
One major focus was on the need for downtown revitalization.
It seems odd to me that the beautiful, well-designed and maintained central library was sold to the Downtown Mission not long ago, then to a private developer.
The city also has an opportunity to add a significant tourist attraction to strengthen the core area, but has decided to put the streetcar and beacon on treasured green space on the riverfront near Askin Boulevard.
Years ago, Windsor had the opportunity to create a beautiful large lakefront park at the old Rendezvous Restaurant site. The “quality-of-life’ folks were overruled by the “put a housing subdivision there” council of the day.
Later, Tecumseh decided on the liveability side with its open lakefront park.
While the Windsor Works Report can highlight needed changes, a new progressive, enhance quality-of-life attitude and a willingness to accept expert advice is what’s required by Mayor Drew Dilkens and council.

The foot traffic such as seen at the Windsor Market on warm Saturday mornings needs to be replicated throughout the core area. Outdoor patios will help in the warmer months, but more attractions are needed.
The streetcar would add another significant year-round attraction.
As the variety of attractions increases, the downtown will return to being a destination where people will want to spend a lot of time.
