covid: Allahabad HC asks UP government to consider vaccinating all citizens, even those below 45 years of age

The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday asked the UP state government to assess the viability of vaccinating all citizens of the state and not just citizens aged above the age of 45 years as well as to examine the viability of having a night curfew to check late evening and high social gatherings.

The HC also said the government should see if it is viable to vaccinate the students appearing for the UP high school and intermediate examinations. “In fact a door to door vaccination programme should be chalked out,” said the HC.

The state has been seeing a steady rise in daily reported cases. It had reported 151 new cases on March 15, which shot up to 1230 on March 31. On Tuesday, the state crossed the 5000th mark clocking 5928 cases in one day, with Lucknow reporting 1188 new cases. More importantly, the number of deaths have also increased. The state reported 30 deaths in one day on Tuesday after the number of deaths had been brought down to single digits every day, remaining under 5 from March 15 to 24.

On Monday, the country crossed over one lakh daily Covid-19 cases on Monday.

The HC asked the police and administrative authorities to once again “earnestly” get into action and ensure 100% masking . About the Panchayat elections going to take place later this month, the HC asked the state to make sure it is conducted without any congregation taking place either during nomination, canvassing or casting of vote.
