Norway’s prime minister, Erna Solberg, has been fined 20,000 kroner (€2,000) for breaking coronavirus rules by organizing a family gathering to celebrate her 60th birthday.
The event, which took place at a restaurant on February 25, involved 13 family members, more than the 10 allowed under the country’s lockdown rules. Solberg didn’t attend the meal because of a hospital visit.
“Even if the law is the same for everyone, not everyone is equal,” Police Commissioner Ole Sæverud said at a press conference Friday, Le Figaro reported. “Ms. Solberg is the country’s most important elected representative and has, on several occasions, been the leading figure in the government’s decisions on measures to curb the pandemic.”
Last month, Solberg apologized on Facebook, acknowledging that Norwegians were “angry and disappointed” with her actions.
Authorities have not investigated another meal organized the day after the first gathering with 14 family members in attendance at Solberg’s rented flat.
