The year 2020 was not so great for the budget smartphones in the sub Rs 10,000 segment. Due to the hike in GST and also lockdown and production issues, companies started raising the price of smartphones in this segment. However, fast forward to April 2021, the segment has got a bit better thanks to some price drops and a few new launches.
The smartphones under Rs 10,000 segment now consists of smartphones from Micromax, Xiaomi, Realme, Motorola, Samsung and Poco.
These smartphones offer a good overall good user experience with a solid build, great battery life, a display that is good for day to day usage and an improved camera at very reasonable prices.
And while there haven’t been many launches in the past couple of months in this segment, we have seen brands dropping the price of their last-gen or slightly old devices which still offers value for money in 2021.

The list is led by Micromax who made its comeback last year and closely followed by Xiaomi, Samsung, and Realme phones. These phones are the best suites for light use as performance is not the highest priority in the segment. The latest surprise return to the Prime series, the Redmi 9 Prime is the only smartphone in the segment to feature a Full HD display. You get a 6.53-inch LCD screen with a waterdrop notch and a resolution of 2340×1080 pixels. It has a 19.5:9 aspect ratio with a peak brightness of about 400 nits. Under the hood, the Redmi 9 Prime is powered by Mediatek’s Helio G80 SoC.
The camera department consists of a quad-camera setup that has a fingerprint sensor tucked underneath it. There is a 13MP f/2.2 main lens, an 8MP ultra-wide, 5MP macro and a 2MP depth sensor. The front has an 8MP sensor for selfies. All this is backed up by a huge 5,020mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging which can be charged via Type-C port.

Samsung latest budget device is the best sub Rs 10,000 device to date from the brand. It brings a lot to the table when compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy M01s. The device is packed with a 6.5-inch HD+ and is powered by Snapdragon 450 SoC. It is available in two configurations -3+32GB and 4+64GB.
On to the optics, the device features a triple camera setup 13MP + 2MP + 2MP. Over to the front, there is a 5MP shooter. The Galaxy M02s is backed by a 5000mAh battery and also supports 15W quick charge.

The successor to the Narzo 20A is now powered by the MediaTek Helio G85 processor which is a budget gaming chipset with its gaming suite. It comes in a Diamond strike design. Just like the Narzo 20A, the Narzo 30A also packs in a 6,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging support via Type-C port.
As for the cameras, there is a 13MP primary camera on the rear backed up by a secondary depth sensor. To the front, you get an 8MP selfie camera. The fingerprint scanner is located on the rear.
The Poco C3 recently received a price cut of Rs 500 for the top variant. Poco C3 flaunts a 6.53-inch HD+ dot notch display. It is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio G35 SoC. There is also microSD card support up to 512GB of additional storage. The device is packed with a massive 5,000mAh battery.
For optics, the Poco C3 offers a triple camera stack at the rear and there is a single camera to the front. You are looking at a 13MP primary camera at the rear with f/2.2 aperture with a 75.2-degree field-of-view followed by a 2MP macro lens with 4cm focal length and a 2MP depth sensor. The dual-tone LED flash completes the rear camera setup. To the front, you get a 5MP selfie shooter housed in the dew-drop notch.
