Brighton boss Graham Potter pointed to a lack of quality in the final third as diminishing his side’s chances of victory, and backed the recently announced widespread social media boycott.
Brighton wasted a golden opportunity to all but secure their Premier League survival after succumbing to defeat against already-relegated Sheffield Utd. The Seagulls boasted far greater numbers in terms of possession and attempts, but were made to rue a lack of clinical finishing when it mattered most.
With five matches remaining and holding a seven-point cushion, Brighton remain strong favourites to beat the drop. Nevertheless, Potter and his men will be taking nothing for granted.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Potter said: “Disappointed of course. We were probably not quite as good as we have been recently.
“We had a decent chance early with Neal Maupay and then gave a poor goal away from our perspective.
“Football is about scoring goals and we didn’t do it today. We pushed and pushed, maybe could have got a goal but it was not to be. We needed a bit more quality over the course of the game.
“We are at that stage of the season where everyone is fighting for something, even if it is pride like Sheffield United.”
Expanding further on the disappointment to the BBC, Potter said: “It’s a frustrating result.

“We didn’t have the quality we can have. When that happens in the Premier League it can be hard. We had some opportunities but it is up to us to do better. It was up to us to create more.”
Regarding the seven-point cushion to 18th-placed Fulham, Potter added: “It’s not enough because there’s a lot of points to play for. We have to just focus on one game at a time. Every opponent is fighting for something.”
Potter responds to social media boycott
Following the match, a joint statement was released from several governing bodies and organisations within English football announcing a social media boycott due to take place over an entire weekend. Details of the move can be found here.
When asked about the boycott, Potter said: “It’s a great statement from the whole of football.
“It’s unacceptable. Social media platforms can do more and hopefully this position we’re taking can force them to do more.”
