I am a 27-year-old living in Windsor with a severe peanut allergy.
Recently, I have not been able to enjoy sitting in my own backyard because of peanuts that were scattered on my chairs and tables.
People in my neighbourhood — and I’m sure elsewhere — are feeding squirrels peanuts and other nuts.
I understand people may want to feed the squirrels, but they may be carrying these nuts into other people’s yards. For people like me, that’s a huge problem.
Do I think feeding squirrels is wrong? No. But please be mindful of other people’s allergies.
There are other options available to feed squirrels.
But right now I often have to make sure everything is wiped down before I go sit outside to enjoy the nice weather. I feel this can be avoided.
It’s not fair that myself or others with severe peanut/nut allergies could potentially be at risk to having an anaphylactic reaction because someone wants to feed nuts to the squirrels.
I feel this should not be allowed.
