Friday’s taping of HBO’s Real Time With Bill Maher has been canceled after the host tested positive for COVID-19. Maher tested positive during weekly checks of the talk show’s staff. According to HBO, Maher is fully vaccinated with no symptoms.
“The Friday, May 14th taping of Real Time with Bill Maher has been cancelled,” HBO said in a statement. “Bill tested positive during weekly staff PCR testing for COVID. He is fully vaccinated and as a result is asymptomatic and feels fine.”
Real Time was slated to feature astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, Hardcore History podcast host Max Brooks, and World War Z author Dan Carlin as guests this Friday’s episode.
“Real Time production has taken every precaution following COVID CDC guidelines,” HBO said. “No other staff or crew members have tested positive at this time. The show will be rescheduled at a later date.”
Maher is amidst Season 19 of his talk show and roundtable series, and was the first talk show to bring back limited studio audiences and in-person guests back in September 2020. He’s one of many talk show hosts who have tested positive for the disease, including people like Ellen DeGeneres, The Talk‘s Sharon Osbourne, and Good Morning America‘s Michael Strahan.
HBO has yet to announce when Real Time will re-enter production, but stay tuned for more news.
