Tecumseh has removed backboards and basketball nets at Century Park after police were called in to deal with “disrespectful” players.
The town reported via its Twitter account that “due to continued non compliance by a large gathering of young adults several times over the past week” contravening the most-recent provincial shutdown order, the action was taken.
Outdoor basketball courts were ordered closed under the order.
The Twitter post also said town staff monitor parks daily and had approached the large group several times and asked them to disperse.
But “users were disrespectful to our staff and the gatherings at the park continued, requiring the Town to involve by-law enforcement and the OPP.”
The provincial stay-at-home order on Thursday was extended to June 2.
