Whenever Apple releases a new hardware feature or removes a port, a surge of new accessories hit the market. The same has occurred since the launch of MagSafe, all’s latest ‘wireless’ charging tech. The Belkin Boost↑Charge Pro 3-in-1 Wireless Charger is one of those products.
Priced at Dh549, the Charge Pro 3-in-1 isn’t exactly cheap but it does serve a pretty good and long-term use-case scenario.
Belkin Boost↑Charge Pro 3-in-1 Wireless Charger
The Belkin Boost Charge Pro charges the iPhone 12 series at up to 15W, uses Qi charging (5W) on the base for other wireless charging products and has a Apple Watch MagSafe charging dock. You also get a 40W barrel jack power supply in the box.
Daily Use
Now there’s two main ways you can use the Charge Pro. It all depends on what your charging cycle is. If you’re the type to charge through the day, you’ll mostly use it on your desk or any location where you usually sit. If you’re like me and you charge overnight, you’ll mostly keep it on your bedside.
iPhone Charge
The charger works really well and there’s aren’t any major issues with it (just small nit-picky ones). During my review period with the charger, I switched between the iPhone 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max and 12 Mini. None of these phones had an issue on the charger. They magnets are pretty strong and hold the phones in portrait as well as landscape positions.
Charging speed on the iPhone MagSafe is at 15W (even when other ports on the charger are being used) and that’s definitely a plus point for me. Now while compared to competitors, 15W is pretty slow, it’s all the iPhone 12 series can manage. So there’s no point really complaining about it.
Apple Watch Charge
The Apple Watch charger works well too. It’s not the fastest but it does the job. The only grip I have with it is that it doesn’t hold the Watch tightly. With the slightest nudge, the watch is either side-ways or upside-down. Now this doesn’t affect the charge as much as it affects my mild OCD.
Qi Charger
The third charger on the base of the Charge Pro might be a 5W Qi charger but it’s the one which makes all the difference. At the same price as Apple’s own MagSafe Duo Charger, the Boost Charge Pro gives you 3 charging surfaces compared to 2.
As a person who has two phones, AirPods and and Apple Watch on him at all times, having 3 charging surfaces makes all the difference. While a 10W or 15W Qi charger would’ve been appreciated, the 5W does the job considering it’s meant to be a desk charger anyway.
Body and Design
The Belkin Boost↑Charge Pro looks like a weird little tree. It’s not a bad design but I’m not a fan on the chrome stem with the black base (there’s also a white one available). I wish the chrome part was black (or white) to match the respective base.
There’s a nice little cable organiser slot at the bottom, which I appreciate. It keeps the back of the base neat.
One thing that drives me mad about the charger is the base’s propensity to collect dust. As people living in the UAE, we’re all used to surface dust collection but it’s always made worse when something on the surface holds onto the dust. The Charge Pro 3-in-1 does this.
It’s not a deal breaker but you should know, you’ll be dusting this charger every day or two.
Should you buy the Belkin Boost↑Charge Pro 3-in-1 Wireless Charger?
At Dh549, I think the Boost Charge Pro 3-in-1 is a good option for a desk or bed-side charger. It’s neat, doesn’t leave a clutter of cables and charges at pretty decent speeds. There are cheaper options in the market but the reliability-factor thanks to the Belkin name is definitely something I’d pay a little more for.
Also, if you don’t need the Apple Watch charger, you can also look at the Boost Charge 2-in-1.
