Over the years, Google has opened dozens of temporary pop-up retail stores all around the world. Whether at a trade show or to promote the launch of a brand new product line, Google has a long history with physical retail. However, it’s never had a permanent home.
That will change next month when the company opens the Google Store NYC, its very first non-pop-up shop. Located in the Chelsea district of Manhattan, the shop will contain all manners of Made by Google products, just like its online store. However, now you’ll be able to try before you buy and get help from staff members whenever you need it.

In addition to products with a “G” on the back, there will also be items available that exist within the Google ecosystem. That will include Nest items and Fitbit wearables. It’s highly likely that third-party products would also appear, such as Chromebooks from Samsung, Asus, etc.
Google also points out that you’ll be able to buy items from the online Google Store and then pick them up. You can also bring in your currently-owned items for repair or technical support. With specific products, you’ll even be able to set up a professional installation.
Of course, the COVID-19 pandemic will still be a thing next month, and Google is aware of the importance of safety. Until further notice, strict precautions will be in place for the Google Store NYC, such as mandatory masks, hand sanitation, and social distancing. Google will also limit the number of people that can be in the store at one time.
Google didn’t give a specific date for the opening. However, it will likely make an announcement sometime in June.
