How does getting this vaccine make you feel?
Great! I’m happy that I could get it and do my part.
What does getting this vaccine mean to you?
It means I am one step closer to possibly getting to see my family and potentially getting the chance to travel (probably not for a while still).
What would you say to someone who feels hesitant about getting the vaccine?
I think it’s important to follow the science and makesure that we’re looking at allof the information. A lot of people think the vaccine came out too quickly, but don’t realize the amount of work and the process that has gone into making and testing this vaccine. Obviously there are people that cannot get it for medical reasons (like allergies to material in the vaccine), so I think it’s especially important for everyone else to get it to help protect those who cannot!
What have been some of your favorite ways to stay physically active during the pandemic?
When the weather is nice, I’ve been trying to go for walks around Durham, or around campus. My favorite place to go is College Woods!
How have you been taking care of your emotional wellbeing during the pandemic?
I have been trying to stay connected to friends and family online, and making sure that I am getting outside when I can!
How do you stay connected with others?
I mostly use FaceTime and Zoom to stay connected with family or with friends who are quarantining. School can sometimes be overwhelming and I get busy, but I try to remember to check-in with friends and family to see how they are when I get a chance! I am also involved with a student org, which has allowed me to stay connected with people around campus while still being online.
Now that you have received the first dose of the vaccine, what is the next thing that you will be holding onto for hope?
I’m excited to get the second dose in a few weeks, but I’m especially excited for the possibility to travel more maybe within the next year (depending how things are).
Do you have any positive words of encouragement for members of our audience who are feeling completely drained and burnt out from this pandemic?
Sometimes it’s hard to think of when things will feel safe, and it can be really overwhelming, so I think it’s important to remember to take time for ourselves and to remind others to take time for themselves. It’s been a really long road, but I hope everyone has something that is making them happy and hopeful! It’s important to hold onto things that bring us joy!
