Everton have been linked with a move for Ruben Loftus-Cheek recently, and if he were to join the Toffees this summer, it could be bad news for Tom Davies’ future at Goodison Park.
According to the Daily Mail, Everton are interested in signing the Chelsea midfielder this summer despite the recent exit of Carlo Ancelotti, with Aston Villa and Southampton also said to be keen on the Englishman.
The Stamford Bridge outfit are reportedly planning a max exodus this summer despite their recent Champions League final win, which could see Loftus-Cheek finally depart on a permanent deal after a number of loan spells.
The 25-year-old spent last season on loan with Fulham but was unable to save Scott Parker’s side from relegation, making 30 appearances in the Premier League, in which he managed just one goal and no assists, averaging a modest 6.50 rating from WhoScored for his performances.
During his time at Chelsea, the midfielder – who once earned comparisons with Michael Ballack – has made just 82 senior appearances, contributing 12 goals and 11 assists.
Who would you rather have at Everton?
Davies
Loftus-Cheek
However, it seems clear now that he won’t make it as a regular with the west London side, and he arguably needs a permanent transfer away so he can settle at another club and start to realise his potential.
If he were to join Everton and rediscover the form which led Parker to label him “exceptional” in last season’s 1-1 draw against Liverpool, then he could prove to be a solid addition at Goodison Park this summer.
Although the identity of the next Everton manager is currently unknown, if sporting director Marcel Brands were to shell out close to Loftus-Cheek’s current £18m market value in order to sign him this summer, it seems likely that he would be challenging for a regular first team spot in the team next season.
This could be bad news for Davies, who despite being handed numerous opportunities by Ancelotti last season managed just one assist and no goals in 25 Premier League appearances, averaging a less than impressive 6.46 rating from WhoScored for his performances.
Therefore, with Southampton having been linked with a move for Davies recently, Loftus-Cheek’s potential arrival could well be the catalyst for the 22-year-old departing Goodison Park for good this summer.
